I’ve always wanted to see a “Drag Queen” show but I’ve never had a chance, living in Serbia.
My stay in Florida, in St. Petersburg, and my DJing in “Detour” club, not only had me watching fantastic shows on weekends but also gave me a chance to meet the performers and become their close friend.
No matter how strange it may sound but ever since I met them and started to really like them a lot, the word “trandza” (bed word in Serbia for drag queens) vanished from my vocabulary.
Alicia, Iman, Alexis and Coco are so much more than just that: true friends, genuine people, great professionals and artists.
This interview is their short life story that I wanted to share with the all of you, visitors of my web site.

 

Oduvek sam zeleo da pogledam “Drag Queen” show, ali u Srbiji, nisam imao prilike nigde da ga vidim.
Moj boravak na Floridi, u St.Petersburgu, i DJ-ing u klubu Detour, omogucio mi je ne samo da gledam svakog vikenda fantastican show, vec i da upoznam aktere istog i postanem njihov vrlo blizak prijatelj.
Koliko god nekome to bilo cudno, od kada sam njih upoznao i zavoleo, rec “trandza” vise ne postoji u mom recniku.
Alicia, Iman, Alexis i Coco su mnogo vise od toga: pravi prijatelji, dobri ljudi, veliki profesionalci i umetnici.
Ovaj intervju je njihova kratka zivotna prica koju sam hteo da podelim sa posetiocima mog sajta.

Questions for Queens:

1. At what age did you first realize that you wanted to perform and dress like a woman?

Alicia:” I have wanted to be a girl all my life. I started performing at 18.”
Iman: “At 12”
Alexis: “I began my performing career at 12 years old and graduated at 18. From Jazz – aero Dancer’s Academy in Puerto Rico. And I 1st dress up like woman
for a show when I was 24.”
Coco: “I knew I wanted to perform as a female impersonator at age 21.”

2. Can you describe to me your childhood?

Alicia: “Not a very happy one. Lets leaves it at that.”
Iman: “Lonely.”
Alexis: “I was very close to my mom and sister and I was always interested in arts. My mom always support me and till today she is always supporting me.
Coco:”Wonderful. Grew up in the Pentecostal church, father was a pastor and I sing in the church choir.”

3. Do you remember your first dress and show?

Alicia: “I did “I’m going on a Man Hunt” and wore a black mini skirt and fish net shirt I got from a girl at work.”
Iman: “White beaded gown”
Alexis: “I remember it was “I m a slave” from Britney Spears and I wore her costume for the video but I make it myself.”
Coco: “Janet Jackson throb and I was in a costume I made which I panned my high school class ring to get the money for.”

4. Who is your idol?

Alicia: Elizabeth Taylor
Iman: Oleta Adams
Alexis: “My idol is Jennifer Lopez, she is a inspiration for my Latin community.”
Coco: Jesus Christ

5. What is your biggest wish?

 

Alicia: “To win the lottery and open my own gay resort.”
Iman: “To have a beautiful home”
Alexis: “Find happiness and real love”
Coco: “World peace and equality for everyone regardless of race, gender, etc…”

6. Which celebrity is your sexual fantasy?

Alicia: Antonio Banderas
Iman: Owen Wilson
Alexis: Brad Pitt, he is hot
Coco: Brad Pitt

7. Your favorite song for show ever?

Alicia: “Don’t need nobody else”
Iman: “New York State of mind”
Alexis: “Irreplaceable” from Beyonce
Coco: “Good Luck” from Basement Jaxx

8. Is it hard to be yourself? Why?

Alicia: “Because the world’s unfortunately still not a very accepting place.”
Iman: “No, not now. At first yes cause I was trying to live for everyone else, and not myself.”
Alexis: “It easy, I m very open and friendly.”
Coco: “It’s hard to be yourself when everyone knows you as someone else.”

9. What is your opinion about sex change?

Alicia: “It’s fine; it is a medical issue and should be treated as such.”
Iman: “I don’t seek if sexual reassignment; I‘m happy the way I am. For those that do I’m happy for them.”
Alexis: “I will not do it, but you are free to choose whatever you want”
Coco: “Everyone is free to choose”

10. Do you realize how glamorous you are?

Alicia: “No, I still don’t think I’m that glamorous.”
Iman: “Yes, but it’s only in the show”
Alexis: “Glamour for us is just on stage; out of stage we are just normal people living in this world.”
Coco: “No, I just try to be the best I can be”  11. Who is your favorite fashion designer and perfume?

Alicia: Thierry Mugler and “Angel” perfume
Iman: Alicia Markstone /5th Avenue Elizabeth Arden
Alexis: Alicia Markstone and Kori Stevens they make my costumes; “Curve” is my favorite fragrance.
Coco: John Galliano/ Unforgivable (Puff Daddy)

12. Who would you like to see in your audience?

 

Alicia:Ellen Degeneras
Iman:Oleta Adams
Alexis: My mom. She knows about my shows but she hasn’t had the opportunity to come to U.S.A and see me.
Coco: Janet Jackson

13. What places in Europe would you like to visit the most?

Alicia: Paris
Iman: Amsterdam
Alexis: “I will love to go to Spain because I’m Spanish and I think it will be a great experience.
Coco: Paris

 

SRPSKI 
Pitanja:
1.  Koliko si imao godina kada si prvi put shvatio da zelis da budes performer i da se oblacis kao zena?
Alicia:
Ja sam imao zelju da budem devojka ceo moj zivot, a u 18-oj godini sam poceo sa performansima.
Iman:
Sa 12 godina.
Alexis:
Sa performansima sam poceo sa 12 godina. Diplomirao sam u osamnaestoj na “Jazz – Aero Dancer’s” Akademiji, u Puerto Rico-u. Prvi put sam se obukao kao zena sa dvadeset i cetiri godine
Coco:
Ja sam znao da zelim  da nastupam kao zena u 21 godini.
2. Mozete li mi opisati svoje detinjstvo?
Alicia:
Ne bas sretno. Bolje da ne pricamo vise o tome.
Iman:
Usamljeno.
Alexis:
Moja mama i sestra su mi oduvek bile vrlo bliske. Umetnost me je uvek zanimala i mama me je u svemu podrzavala; do dana danasnjeg.
Coco:
Divno. Odrastao sam u Pentecostal crkvi. Moj otac je bio pastor i ja sam pevao u crkvenom horu.  3. Da li se secate svoje prve haljine i nastupa?
Alicia:
Nastupio sam uz numeru “I’m going on a Man Hunt” i nosio sam crnu mini-suknju sa “riblja-mreza” majicom, koju sam dobio od prijateljice sa posla.
Iman:
Bela vencanica.
Alexis:
Secam se “I’m a slave”, Britney Spears, i kostima koji sam sam napravio po naliku na njen video.
Coco:
Janet Jackson – Throb; nosio sam kostim koji sam napravio uz pomoc srednjoskolskog razrednog prstena, koji sam zalozio i tako dobio novac.
4. Ko ti je idol?
Alicia:
Elizabeth Taylor
Iman:
Oleta Adams
Alexis:
Meni je idol Jennifer Lopez; ona je prava inspiracija u mojoj Latino zajednici.
Coco:
Jesus Christ
5. Koja ti je najveca zelja?
Alicia:
Da dobijem na lutriji i otvorim svoje gay odmaraliste.
Iman:
Da imam divan dom.
Alexis:
Da pronadjem srecu i pravu ljubav.
Coco:
Mir u svetu i jednakost za sve, bez obzira na rasu, pol i sl…
6. Ko ti je od poznatih seksualna fantazija?
Alicia:

Iman:

Alicia:

8. Da li je tesko biti svoj? I zasto je?
Alicia:
Zbog toga sto svet nije bas neko mesto puno dobrodoslice.
Iman:
Ne, sada nije tesko. U pocetku jeste bilo, zato sto sam pokusavao da zivim za sve druge, samo ne za sebe.
Alexis:
Lako je; ja sam veoma otvoren i prijateljski raspolozen.
Coco:
Tesko je biti svoj kada te svi znaju kao nekog drugog.
9.Vase misljenje o promeni pola?
Alicia:
To je ok; to je medicinska tema i tako je treba i tretirati.
Iman:
Ne zelim da promenim pol; zadovoljan sam sobom. Svi koji to zele, drago mi je zbog njih.
Alexis:
Ja to necu uraditi, ali svi mogu slobodno da biraju sta zele.
Coco:
Sve mogu slobodno da izaberu.

10. Da li ste svesni koliko ste glamurozni?

Alicia:
Ne, ja jos uvek ne verujem da sam toliko glamurozan.
Iman:
Da, ali to je samo za nastup.
Alexis:
Glamur je za nas prisutan samo na bini. Van nje, mi smo svi samo obicni ljudi, koji zive svoje zivote na ovom svetu.
Coco:
Ne, ja samo pokusavam da budem najbolji sto mogu.
11. Ko je tvoj omiljeni dizajner i parfem?
Alicia:
Thierry Mugler i “Angel” parfem
Iman:
Alicia Markstone / 5th Avenue Elizabeth Arden
Alexis:

Moju mamu. Ona zna za moje nastupe, ali nije do sada imala priliku da dodje u SAD, da me vidi.

13. Koja mesta u Evropi bi najvise voleli da vidite?
Alicia:
Paris
Iman:
Amsterdam
Alexis:
Voleo bih da posetim Spaniju, zato sto sam i ja Spanac i zato sto mislim da bi to bilo dragoceno iskustvo.
